Welcome to Lord Aylmer School!

Lord Aylmer is an Elementary school that is part of the Western Quebec School Board in Gatineau Québec. The school has two public educational programs. The English Program (all English – 40 min./day of French Second Language) and the Immersion Program (100% French from K – grade 2, and 50/50 in grades 3-6).

The school offers programming from Kindergarten to Cycle 1 (grades 1 and 2), Cycle 2 (grades 3 and 4) and Cycle 3 (grades 5 and 6).

The school has many optional lunch time activities for all students. Many are free but there are outside groups that provide activities for a fee.

All grades have visual arts as part of the curriculum. Music is taught in Kindergarten and Cycle 1 while Drama is taught in Cycles 2 and 3.

There are many special events at the school (Terry Fox Run, Recognition Assemblies, Art Fair, Staff Plays for students, Reading Week, Back to school BBQ, Family School Dances (evenings), Christmas bazaar, etc.). More information can be found on our school website throughout the year. The school has a Home and School Association that plays a very active role in the children’s activities.

The school also has an Anti-violence and Anti-bullying program developed and updated by the staff. It is reviewed and updated by the Lord Aylmer Governing Board (committee of elected parents and staff) every year.

Lord Aylmer School offers a before and after school Daycare program. This program is partly subsidized by the Quebec Government. The children have a homework period, arts and crafts and many activities including sports and technology.

My Values and Beliefs

I believe in ensuring a safe and positive environment at the school and in high academic standards for all students. I believe bilingualism is something to which we should aspire for every student. I believe in the incredible power of extra-curricular activities whether they are athletic, academic or social in nature. I want every child who attends this school to receive a world-class education that I would want for my own child.

I believe in being fair, honest, approachable, and accessible. I believe in leading by example. I believe that we can accomplish much more together than on our own. I believe that parents, staff and the community are partners in education and that all have important contributions to learning and to the success of the school.

I believe in teaching children about cooperation but also about the value of healthy competition and how to win or lose with grace. Finally, I believe very strongly that the development of character and values such as leadership, perseverance and citizenship in our students is key for helping them succeed in life.
