Hello L.A. Community!

Can you believe we’re already heading into the last week of September? This month has absolutely flown by, and what a journey it’s been! Together, we’ve set the foundation for a safe, exciting, and successful school year—one filled with learning, laughter, and the kind of positive energy that makes Lord Aylmer such a special place.

As we turn the page into October, get ready, our calendar is chock full of exciting events and opportunities for our students and families to shine. And of course, we can’t wait to kick off another Monday Boost next week to keep the momentum going strong.

We have a big update this week, please see below and attached for all necessary information.

Welcome Back BBQ –

  • HUGE shout out and thanks to our Home & School Association for their support during our Welcome Back BBQ – the event simply could not happen without your support – from all of us here at L.A. – THANK YOU 😊.
  • Another BIG thanks to our community – our parents/guardians/grandparents/aunts/uncles – everyone who came out, supported our school, and participated in the fun!
  • One last GIANT thanks to the L.A. Staff for showing up, engaging, and supporting one of the most anticipated events of the school year.

September 30, 2025 – Truth & Reconciliation Day @ L.A.

  • We encourage our staff and students to wear ORANGE to remember, honour, and stand with every survivor of the residential school system, the children who never came home, and the families and communities forever changed.
  • We will have a special guest, Ms. Shirley Tolley, member of the Algonquin Nation of Kitigan Zibi who will open our assembly.

Security Background Checks – Vulnerable Sector

  • A friendly reminder to our community – if you plan to volunteer at any point this school year, you MUST have a valid Security Background Check on file with the Western Quebec School Board.
  • This process is easy and free of charge – you can either see Karen Comfort (JR Campus) or Paula Savescu (SR Campus) to complete the form. Please ensure you bring two pieces of valid government issues photo identification.
  • The turn around is currently approximately two weeks.

Transportation Delays/Cancellations

  • A friendly reminder that all communication regarding transportation – whether, cancellations, delays – will be communicated centrally through the School Board, as the Transportation Department is a centrally run at the Head Office.
  • Parents/guardians will receive a text message using the GRICS Communication tool.
  • The messages will be sent to the adults who are registered in our system as being the responsible adults for a student. This includes the parents or guardians of the student.
  • It is important to note that this will be a one-way communication system meaning there will be no option to reply.
  • Additionally, you can download the application on your Smart Phone to receive immediate and up to date information – mParent Application. All information regarding downloading the application is in the Mozaik Instructional Guide attached.
  • You will NOT receive communication from the school – email or Facebook.

October Calendar

Nut Policy @ L.A.

  • A reminder that L.A. is a peanut free school.
  • If your child’s homeroom has any other additional allergies, the homeroom teacher will communicate with you and ask that those specific items not be packed in your child’s lunches – i.e., tree nuts, eggs etc.

Community Representative on Governing Board

  • Calling all interested individuals!
  • The Lord Aylmer Governing Board is looking to fill two vacant Community Representative position.
  • Please see the attached memo & example for further details.

Scheduling an Appointment with Administration

  • A quick note to our community to remind you to please schedule an appointment with either Hannah or I if you wish to discuss a particular matter or situation.
  • A meeting or phone call can be scheduled through sending either one of us an email. Please see the attached Admin Dossier document for who to contact.
  • Please allow a 48-hour turn around (typically we are much quicker than that).
  • Hannah and I have extremely tight schedules and are our efforts/attention during any school day are focused on the day-to-day functioning of the school.
  • Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate parent(s) or guardian(s) arriving at the school requesting to speak with either of us at any given moment.
  • We appreciate your support and attention to this matter.

WQSB Literacy Council – Family Planner-Making Night at Lord Aylmer!

  • COME ONE, COME ALL! Join us for Lord Aylmer’s very first Family Activity Club night – a fun-filled evening of creativity, learning, and family time!
  • The Western Quebec Literacy Council helps English-speaking adults and families reach their learning goals and practice reading, math, and science in everyday life. Through their Family Activity Club, families come together to spend quality time, get creative, and enjoy hands-on activities. Thanks to dedicated volunteers and funding from the Quebec government, these programs are completely free!
  • When: Monday, October 20, 2025
  • Time: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Parking Lots – JR & SR

  • JR CAMPUS –
    • A reminder to all parent(s) and guardian(s) at the JR Campus – the parking lot dedicated to drop-off and pick-up is on the left-hand side of the school.
    • The parking lot on the right-hand side of the school is NOT to be used at ANY TIME for drop-off and pick-up.
    • If you try to pull into this parking lot, you will immediately be re-directed.
  • SR CAMPUS –
    • The upper parking lot is designated for drop-off and pick-up.
    • During drop-ff & pick-up (at any time during the day), you are to park in a designated parking spot – Please DO NOT pull up to the front entrance and park on the side.
    • We have had close calls with students and staff walking through the parking lot – please be mindful of your speed at all times.

Pizza Day

  • A reminder that Pizza Day starts October 7, 2025.
  • Many students have been coming without a lunch on Tuesdays, citing that it is Pizza Day.
  • Please ensure your child(ren) are packing a lunch until the start of our Pizza Days.

Family Celebrations

  • At Lord Aylmer Elementary, we are proud to be part of a vibrant and diverse community where every family brings unique traditions and stories that enrich our school life.
  • We believe that honoring these special celebrations helps foster understanding, respect, and a sense of belonging for all our students.
  • To support this, we warmly invite you to share any traditions, holidays, or celebrations that are meaningful to your family.

Bonjour, communauté de Lord Aylmer!

Pouvez-vous croire que nous sommes déjà à la dernière semaine de septembre? Ce mois est passé à toute vitesse et quel beau parcours ce fut! Ensemble, nous avons jeté les bases d’une année scolaire sécuritaire, stimulante et réussie, une année remplie d’apprentissages, de rires et de l’énergie positive qui fait de Lord Aylmer un endroit si spécial.

Alors que nous tournons la page vers octobre, préparez-vous: notre calendrier est rempli d’événements excitants et d’occasions pour nos élèves et leurs familles de briller. Et bien sûr, nous avons hâte de lancer un autre Monday Boost la semaine prochaine pour maintenir notre bel élan.

BBQ de la rentrée

  • Un immense merci à notre Association Home & School pour son appui lors du BBQ de la rentrée – l’événement n’aurait tout simplement pas pu avoir lieu sans vous. De nous tous à L.A. – MERCI 😊.
  • Un autre grand merci à notre communauté – nos parents/tuteurs/grands-parents/tantes/oncles – à toutes les personnes qui sont venues, ont soutenu notre école et ont participé au plaisir!
  • Et un dernier énorme merci au personnel de L.A. pour leur présence, leur engagement et leur appui lors de l’un des événements les plus attendus de l’année scolaire.

30 septembre 2025 – Journée de la vérité et de la réconciliation à L.A.

  • Nous encourageons le personnel et les élèves à porter ORANGE afin de se souvenir, d’honorer et de se solidariser avec tous les survivants des pensionnats, les enfants qui ne sont jamais revenus, ainsi que les familles et communautés à jamais transformées.
  • Nous aurons l’honneur d’accueillir Mme Shirley Tolley, membre de la Nation algonquine de Kitigan Zibi, qui ouvrira notre assemblée.

Vérification des antécédents judiciaires – Secteur vulnérable

  • Petit rappel à notre communauté: si vous prévoyez faire du bénévolat à un moment quelconque de l’année scolaire, vous devez avoir une vérification d’antécédents judiciaires valide au dossier auprès de la Commission scolaire Western Québec.
  • Ce processus est simple et gratuit – vous pouvez voir Karen Comfort (campus JR) ou Paula Savescu (campus SR) pour remplir le formulaire. Veuillez apporter deux pièces d’identité gouvernementales avec photo.
  • Le délai est actuellement d’environ deux semaines.

Retards/annulations de transport

  • Rappel amical: toutes les communications liées au transport (annulations, retards) seront faites directement par la Commission scolaire, puisque le département du transport est centralisé au bureau principal.
  • Les parents/tuteurs recevront un message texte via l’outil de communication GRICS.
  • Les messages seront envoyés uniquement aux adultes inscrits dans notre système comme responsables de l’élève (parents ou tuteurs).
  • Veuillez noter qu’il s’agit d’un système unidirectionnel, il n’y aura pas d’option de réponse.
  • Vous pouvez également télécharger l’application mParent sur votre téléphone intelligent afin de recevoir l’information en temps réel. Tous les détails pour le téléchargement se trouvent dans le guide Mozaïk joint.
  • Vous ne recevrez pas de communication de l’école par courriel ou Facebook.

Calendrier d’octobre

Politique sur les noix à L.A.

  • Rappel: L.A. est une école sans arachides.
  • Si la classe de votre enfant compte d’autres allergies importantes, l’enseignant(e) titulaire communiquera avec vous pour vous demander d’éviter certains aliments précis (p. ex. noix, œufs, etc.) dans les lunchs.

Représentant(e) communautaire au conseil d’établissement

  • Avis à toutes les personnes intéressées!
  • Le conseil d’établissement de Lord Aylmer cherche à combler deux postes vacants de représentant(e) communautaire.
  • Veuillez consulter la note de service jointe pour plus de détails et un exemple.

Conseil de littératie WQSB – Soirée familiale de création d’agendas à Lord Aylmer!

  • Venez nombreux! Joignez-vous à nous pour la toute première activité du Club familial de Lord Aylmer – une soirée remplie de créativité, d’apprentissage et de plaisir en famille!
  • Le Conseil de littératie de l’Ouest du Québec aide les adultes et familles anglophones à atteindre leurs objectifs d’apprentissage et à pratiquer la lecture, les mathématiques et les sciences dans la vie quotidienne. Grâce à leur Club familial, les familles passent du temps de qualité ensemble en réalisant des activités créatives et pratiques. Ces programmes sont gratuits, grâce à des bénévoles dévoués et au financement du gouvernement du Québec.

Stationnements – JR & SR

  • Campus JR
    • Le stationnement dédié aux arrivées/départs est situé du côté gauche de l’école.
    • Le stationnement du côté droit ne doit jamais être utilisé pour l’arrivée ou le départ.
    • Si vous tentez d’y entrer, vous serez immédiatement redirigés.
  • Campus SR
    • Le stationnement supérieur est réservé aux arrivées/départs.
    • À ces moments (à toute heure de la journée), veuillez stationner dans un espace désigné – ne vous stationnez pas devant l’entrée principale.
    • Nous avons eu des situations dangereuses avec des élèves et membres du personnel traversant le stationnement – merci d’être prudents et attentifs à votre vitesse en tout temps.

Journée pizza

  • Rappel: la journée pizza débute le 7 octobre 2025.
  • Plusieurs élèves arrivent sans lunch le mardi en pensant que c’est déjà la journée pizza.
  • Merci de vous assurer que votre enfant apporte son lunch jusqu’au début officiel des journées pizza.

  • À Lord Aylmer, nous sommes fiers de faire partie d’une communauté riche et diversifiée, où chaque famille apporte ses traditions et histoires uniques qui enrichissent notre vie scolaire.
