    November 2020 Newsletter

It’s hard to believe we have already completed one fifth of the school year. Although 2020-2021 has presented us with many additional challenges, every member of the Lord Aylmer School community has contributed to making this first part of the year a successful one. I would like to commend the members of staff for their professionalism and hard work from their adapted classroom set-up and lessons, to the added work for office staff and the extra support provided to our students in need that is ensured every day by our special education staff.

I would also like to thank our parents for their work in partnering with the staff to help make Lord Aylmer a place with high academic and behavioural standards. In particular, I want to recognize our dedicated group of parent volunteers on the Lord Aylmer Home and School Committee. Through their energy and devotion to our students, they have found creative solutions to some of the barriers we have faced as a school. Thank you.

Please see important information and dates below.

    STUDENT RECOGNITION ASSEMBLY
We will hold our Student Recognition Assembly on Nov. 3. The school value on which we focused in October was “Inclusion”. Congratulations to all who will receive an award. We are very proud of our students’ efforts in following our school values. The value on which we will focus in November is “Compassion”.

    REMEMBRANCE DAY
Lord Aylmer will participate in a Virtual Remembrance Day Assembly on Nov 11. We would like to encourage the students to wear red and a Poppy to show our support for the Armed Forces.

To honour past and present members of the Armed Forces we will have different activities during Veteran’s Week. On the morning announcements we will highlight a “Veteran of the Day”. We are also hoping to have a few guest speakers join classrooms for a virtual presentation. If you are interested in being a guest speaker please contact the school.

In an effort to support our Veterans we are also going to have a one-day fundraiser called “Loonies for Legionaires”. Students can bring in loonies on November 11. Teachers will collect them and we will make a school wide donation to the Legion.

    REMIND NOTIFICATIONS
Please visit our website to find out how to sign up for REMIND, if you have not already done so. Important information is shared through this notification system. Some families have shared that they were no longer receiving notifications. We are not sure of the reason but have found that deleting your registration and then re-registering has fixed the error.

    PROGRESS REPORTS
Progress reports will be available for viewing on November 20 through Mosaik Parent Portal. If you are not yet registered to Mosaik, please contact our administrative technician, Corinna Abraham, at cabraham@wqsb.qc.ca.

    GOVERNING BOARD
The next Lord Aylmer Governing Board meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, November 18 at 6:30 p.m.

    PD DAY AND DAYCARE
November 27 is a PD day. Daycare services are available for those who register. Registration forms will be sent home two weeks before the PD day. October daycare payments are due the week of November 3-6.

    THANK YOU
Thank you to Kimberley Fortin and Sam Brisebois for the donation of Tupperware Water Bottles. These bottles have been used when students do not have a water bottle at school.

    INCLEMENT WEATHER
Please ensure children are dressed appropriately for the weather. Students will be outdoors as much as possible. An extra pair of dry socks and mittens or gloves are recommended. Please label all clothing items.
