Dear Parent/Guardian,
In an attempt to keep you informed of the most up-to-date information, in this letter you will find the newest Public Health measures for schools. Outlined below are the 3 procedures that have an impact on current protocol when a child presents with symptoms of COVID-19. Please see below for the 3 main changes to current practices:
- Waiting for 24 hrs prior to contacting public health is no longer in place. Parents of children who present with COVID-19 symptoms are to call Public Health immediately and follow public health directives. You will notice there is no longer an option to observe for 24 hrs prior to returning to school on the Attestation Form sent home with students when picked up from school. If a child presents with symptoms prior to the school day, he/she must stay home and a call to Public Health is required upon the onset of symptoms.
- Public Health measures now indicate that siblings of children who present with symptoms of COVID-19 at school, should go home at the same time as the child presenting with symptoms and remain home until everyone is symptom free. This was the procedure earlier in the year and has been re-established.
- If someone within the household is being tested for COVID-19, students must not attend school until a negative result is confirmed. This was also the procedure earlier in the year and has been re-established.
Although Public Health has confirmed these new protocols and sent them to schools, they have indicated that the online assessment tool information main page will be slower to show the change.
If it is recommended by Public Health that a child not be tested, the regular Lord Aylmer illness protocols are in place, requiring students to be symptom-free for 24 hrs, 48 hrs in the case of fever, prior to returning to school.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your support in keeping everyone in our school safe and healthy.
Respectfully,
Eldon Keon, Principal
Julia Horner, Vice Principal
