STUDENT RECOGNITION ASSEMBLY
We will hold our Student Recognition Assembly on Nov. 5. The school value on which we focused in October was “Inclusion”. Congratulations to all award winners! We are very proud of our students’ efforts in
following our school values. The value on which we will focus in November is “Compassion”.
TERRY FOX RUN
Our Terry Fox School Run at the end of September and beginning of October went very well again this year, with all students participating in a walk or run with their class. Our online fundraising efforts raised a total
$3565.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation to further the search for cancer treatments – thank you for helping Lord Aylmer make such a significant contribution each year! Although our school campaign is now officially over, you can continue to support cancer research by visiting our school’s donation page: http://www.terryfox.ca/LordAylmerSchool
LORD AYLMER READS
Congratulations to our winners of the LA Reads: Summer Sweepstakes! Our winners are Maddie Kelly, Liam McNally, Sadie Kelly, Declan Lawless, Amina Sow, Francis Provencher Crête, Evan Gauthier. Thanks to all participants!!!
REMEMBRANCE DAY
Lord Aylmer will participate in a Virtual Remembrance Day ceremony on Nov 11. We would like to encourage the students to wear red and to wear a Poppy to show our support for the Armed Forces. To honour veterans, we
will have different activities during our Veteran’s Week. We are also partnering with the Legion to have a guest speaker join classrooms for virtual presentations.
PRIDE CLUB AT LORD AYLMER
In addition to the existing extra-curricular activities already begun at the school this year (Student Leaders, Running Club, Intra-murals), members of our staff are creating a Pride Club to promote inclusion and safety at
Lord Aylmer School. The Pride Club will provide students from grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 an opportunity to drop in at lunch once a week to participate in inclusive team-building activities and to learn more about how they can
become allies to the LGBTQ+ community. Children can decide on a week-by-week basis if they would like to attend, so no long-term commitment is required. Children from different grades will meet separately for age-appropriate discussions and activities. Teachers leading this team will ensure age-appropriate content while building an inclusive and positive environment for all. This will be a safe space for students to ask questions, build their knowledge, show their support, connect with their peers and to raise awareness within the Lord Aylmer community. Pride Club is for students from the LGBTQ+ community as well as for students who are not but who wish to become allies toward inclusion and acceptance of others. Pride Club will also be a place for students to develop friendships with their peers as they raise awareness of inclusion within the greater school community.
There will not be formal lesson plans for this club, but the staff leaders will check in weekly as a group to unify the activities and topics of conversation. Students will also have access to a “Drop Box” in which they will be able to leave questions, comments or ideas that might possibly change the direction of some of our activities. That will give teachers time to review questions and to prepare ways to address them the next week. Possible topics and activities include but are not limited to colouring PRIDE flags, discussion of past and present flags, dance parties, reading books that teach about LGBTQ community and inclusion, cooperative games, poster creation to raise awareness at school, highlighting LGBTQ+ historical figures and current role models, addressing stereotypes, family diversity, and learning how to stop bullying of members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The members of the staff team who will be working with the PRIDE Club are Ms. Chisholm and Ms. Russell (gr. 3 Leaders), Ms. McIntyre and Ms. Guenette (gr. 4 Leaders), Ms. Luker and Ms. Cobham (gr. 5 Leaders), as well as Mr. Perron, Ms. Hobbs and Ms. Kearns (gr. 6 Leaders). Please feel free to reach out to them or to Mr. Keon if you have any questions.
