    WQSB Reporting of COVID-19 Absences

    Dear Parent/Guardian/Student,

Further to the letter you received on January 21, 2022, I am writing you today to provide you with information regarding the reporting of COVID-19 related absences in our schools and centres. As indicated in the January 21 letter, the process for advising parents and students of COVID-19 cases in schools and centres has changed. The Western Quebec School Board like all other school boards and educational service centres in the province is now required to provide specific information regarding COVID-19 absences to the ministry of education. The data is collected twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Fridays (as directed by the MEQ). More specifically, we are required to collect and provide the following data for each one of our schools and centres:

    • Total number of student absences for the given day
    • Number of absences that are COVID-related but do not include a positive COVID-19 test result (ie. student is quarantining because a family member has a positive result, student has COVID-19 symptoms)
    • Number of absences that are the result of a positive COVID-19 test result (the student who is absent from school has received a positive COVID-19 test result)

In a continued effort to keep you informed, the data that is collected and reported to the Ministry of Education will be shared with you via the school board website and individual school media platforms (as per usual practice). Please note that the first publication will be made available today, January 31st. As stated above, there will be two publications per week.

Please go to westernquebec.ca in order to access the updated data.

    Sincerely,

    GEORGE SINGFIELD

Secrétaire général, directeur des services corporatifs et des communications
