    Newsletter #4 – December 2021

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

It is hard to believe that November is already behind us and that we are approaching the winter months. As we begin to experience more inclement weather, please be reminded that I will be communicating directly to you through the REMIND notification service if we have bus cancellations or school closures.

Over the past few months, I have had the opportunity to observe amazing lessons in which our students are fully engaged in learning concepts, skills and improving overall competency levels. Teachers and support staff are working hard to ensure we get our students to progress and to meet academic standards.

I would like to commend our parents/guardians for the wonderful values being taught at home. Walking the corridors throughout the day, one is greeted with a smiling “Good morning,” “Good afternoon,” or “Bonjour!” Doors are held open for others and students are glad to help with responsibilities around the school like recycling, tidying up the class, composting, decorating and announcements. This certainly enhances the school climate and makes coming to work a true joy for this principal.

On behalf of the members of our dedicated staff, I would like to wish you and your family a safe and wonderful holiday season, a Merry Christmas and a Happy Chanukah to all who celebrate these traditions.

    -Eldon Keon

    STUDENT RECOGNITION ASSEMBLY

We will hold our Student Recognition Assembly on Dec. 3. The school value on which we focused in November was “Compassion”. Congratulations to all award winners! We are very proud of our students’ efforts in following our school values. The value on which we will focus in December is “Collaboration”.

    BERNIE BRENNAN AWARD

It was with immense pleasure that during our Remembrance Day ceremony, the Bernie Brennan award for service and citizenship was presented to Ms. Wendy Larin. Ms. Larin is one of our Special Education Technicians at the Junior Campus. In this role she has truly shaped the heart and soul of Lord Aylmer School. Ms. Larin’s kindness and empathy toward everyone she meets creates a safe, warm, and understanding environment that extends into our community. Congratulations on this well deserved award.

    ANGEL TREE

Lord Aylmer Home & School is teaming-up with the school to bring you LA’s annual Angel Tree Program! As the school cannot accept wrapped gifts this year, we will be raising funds to help our Holiday Elves purchase gifts for children in need at the school. Together, we will be helping 17 families with a total of 29 Lord Aylmer kids. There are two ways you can donate:

    • Donations through credit/debit card in our Online Shop at:
    • Donations by cash or etransfer: Please email us at lordaylmerhs@hotmail.com and we will be in touch with more detailed information (i.e., payment info, drop-off points for cash, etc.).

All funds will go towards gifts for our LA children in need, and any extra funds will go towards pantry staples for their families. The deadline to donate is Wednesday, December 15. Thank you for helping us make this holiday season joyful for our families in need!

    DRIVE-THROUGH FOR THE FOOD BANK

Lord Aylmer will be holding a drive-through food drive for the Aylmer Foodbank at the front parking lot of the Senior Campus on Saturday, December 11 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Please join us in this campaign by dropping off non-perishable food items.

    SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

On November 25 and 26, our Home and School held a Scholastic Book Fair at the senior campus. Thanks to the support of our parent community, Home and School sold over $6000 in products which will generate over $2000 for Lord Aylmer School in Scholastic products! The Final total will be available soon!! Thank you to all for coming to our book fair.

    COVID VACCINATIONS

Covid vaccinations are being arranged through the school for Friday, December 17 and Monday, December 20. Details were forwarded by your child’s homeroom teacher on December 1st. For those who are registered for the school vaccinations, students will be transported by bus to South Hull for their shot. Parents will not be permitted to accompany their child that day. Those who do wish to accompany their child for the vaccine may want to schedule an appointment at one of the Public Health sites (link: https://portal3.clicsante.ca/ ) rather than through the school vaccination program.
