    Newsletter – June 2022

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

As we enter into the last month of this school year, I am pleased to see school looking more and more like . . . school again. As numbers of cases have dropped significantly, we have cautiously returned to some of the normal activities that have been the cornerstone of our school in the past. Exchanges between students, clubs, sports and special events are back at Lord Aylmer as are school trips. As is outlined below, our first big event of the month is our End-of-Year Carnival BBQ on June 2nd which is organized by our amazing Home and School team. We hope to see all of our families at the BBQ finally gathered once again as a school community. We will also be returning to our traditional format for the graduation with all grads and their families welcome to attend this year in celebration of the accomplishments of our grade 6 students. You will see below, the other activities planned for June. Also happening this month are many end-of-year evaluations so I will ask that you please ensure regular attendance (except for when sick) and punctuality with arrivals. Have a great month!

    STUDENT RECOGNITION ASSEMBLY

We will hold our Student Recognition Assembly on June 3. The school value on which we focused in May was “Independence”. Congratulations to all our award winners. The value on which we will focus in June is “Growth Mindset”. We are very proud of our students and appreciate their efforts in following our school values throughout the year.

    GRADE SIX GRADUATION

The grade six graduation ceremony will take place on Tuesday, June 21 at the Senior Campus at 12:30 p.m. More details will be sent to parents of graduating students. Congratulations to all our Grade 6 graduates!

    ENERGY CUBE CHALLENGE

For three weeks in May our students, staff and families were invited to get moving and stay active for the Energy Cube Challenge. This initiative invited students to engage in physical activities at school and home to attain as many “energy cubes” as possible (15 minutes of physical activity = 1 energy cube).

Thanks to your efforts, the Junior Campus accumulated a total of 163,680 minutes (2,728 hrs.) and the senior campus accumulated a total of 363,577 minutes (6,060 hrs.) making a grand total of 527,257 minutes (8,788 hrs.) of physical activity school wide. Congratulations!

Thank you for participating and we hope to continue encouraging our students to stay active.

If you missed the Kindergarten Virtual Open House on May 19, you can access the recorded session at the following link: https://lordaylmer.westernquebec.ca/about/registrations-2022-2023/welcome-to-kindergarten2022-2023/ The link also includes a video from the WQSB Transitions Team for Kindergarten parents and instructions for signing up for our REMIND notices.

We will be distributing the School Readiness Kits (mentioned at the Open House) at the Home and School BBQ taking place on Thursday, June 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Senior Campus. New kindergarten students and their families are invited to attend. All activities are free. If you have any questions about the BBQ you can contact the Home and School at lordaylmerhs@gmail.com
