Welcome Back BBQ
- The Welcome Back BBQ is September 12, 2024
- RAIN DATE – September 19, 2024.
- WHAT – Are you ready to meet your 2024-2025 L.A. Team? Do you like to have fun? Say no more, welcome to our annual Welcome Back BBQ!
- bouncy castles & face painting (free), hotdogs (halal & veggie options available), chips, pop & water. *Tickets will be available for purchase through cash & and card payment. Each ticket is priced at $1.50*

- WHEN – 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
- Our AGM will take place after the BBQ, in the SR campus gymnasium, September 12th from 6:00pm – 7:00pm.
- The AGM is held to elect the members of our Governing Board for the 2024-2025 school year.
- What is Governing Board?
- Governing Board is the committee that makes decisions about the aims and objectives for the school and to monitor how these are being achieved. This includes voting on policies, fundraisers, the school’s Code of Conduct (discipline policy), Anti-bullying and Anti-violence Plan, budget, school fees, school trips, criteria for the selection of the principal, as well as the adoption and monitoring of the implementation of the school’s Educational Project, which guides the school’s decisions regarding student learning and success. The Governing Board is also consulted on a variety of topics by the school board each year.
- Its members are parents/guardians, teachers, support staff, daycare staff, the principal, and community representatives but only parent representatives are elected at the AGM.
- Additionally, we will also elect a Parent Committee representative from the Governing Board members. This representative will sit on a School Board Committee, which meets approximately 5 times a year. Furthermore, information regarding the SEAC (Special Education Advisory Committee) will be shared.
UPDATE – There are four two-year term seats and one one-year term seat available for the parent/guardian election, making a total of five vacant seats.
At the Annual General Meeting each parent/guardian who is interested in putting their name forward for a seat on the Governing Board will be asked to present themselves and share their name, along with the grade of their child(ren) attending Lord Aylmer (you must have a child attending Lord Aylmer to be considered for a seat). Additionally, you will be asked to speak to the reason as to why you are interested in joining the board and what you will contribute with holding a seat on the board.
If there are more than five parent(s)/guardian(s) who are interested, each member will present themselves and we will move ahead with a vote. All parent(s)/guardian(s) present at the Annual General Meeting will vote for their parent/guardian representatives.
**If you cannot attend the General Assembly and would like to put your name forth for nomination for the Governing Board or Parent Committee you MUST contact Sam Halpin & Hannah Patrick and share your intent to run for election. You will be required to write a letter stating your intention and the reason why you should be nominated. This letter will be read by at the General Assembly during the appropriate election**

Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)
- What is the Special Education Advisory Committee?
- Every school board establishes an advisory committee on services for students with special needs, difficulty with social adjustment, or learning disabilities. It is composed of members of staff who support these students, one principal, the director of complementary services as well as parents of children with an Individual Education Plan (IEP). This committee advises the school board, on its “policy for the organization of educational services to handicapped students and students with social maladjustments or learning disabilities”. It also advises the resource allocation committee and the board on the allocation of financial resources to the services intended for those students and on the board’s Commitment to Success Plan. It may also advise the school board on the implementation of a student’s IEP.
- Selection of Members to SEAC
- During the Annual General Meeting, parents/guardians who wish to be considered for selection to S.E.A.C. may submit their names to the principal. Selection of parent members for this committee will be made by the Parent Committee at its first meeting. If interested parents cannot attend the AGM, it is possible to submit their name electronically no later than September 30th, by accessing a short form (SEAC FORM) available on the school board’s website at https://westernquebec.ca/join-the-special-education-advisory-committee/.

End of Day Changes
- For any and all end of day changes to your child(ren)’s schedule, please contact the front office (Karen Comfort kcomfort@wqsb.qc.ca @ JR Campus and Paula Savescu psavescu@wqsb.qc.ca @ SR Campus) by no later than 1:30pm.
- This will ensure we have appropriate time to inform the classroom teachers and that the end of day change will take affect.
- Of course, we are aware of extenuating circumstances and therefore, if an emergency occurs, we will help and support your family in whatever way we can.

Assemblée générale annuelle (AGA)
- Notre AGA aura lieu après le BBQ, dans le gymnase du campus Senior, le 12 septembre de 18h00 à 19h00.
- L’AGA est organisé pour élire les membres de notre conseil d’administration pour l’année scolaire 2024-2025.
- Qu’est-ce que le conseil d’administration ?
- Le conseil d’administration est le comité qui prend des décisions sur les objectifs de l’école et sur la façon dont ces objectifs sont atteints. Cela inclut le vote sur les politiques, les collectes de fonds, le code de conduite de l’école (politique de discipline), le plan de lutte contre l’intimidation et la violence, le budget, les frais de scolarité, les sorties scolaires, les critères de sélection du directeur, ainsi que l’adoption et le suivi de la mise en œuvre du projet éducatif de l’école, qui guide les décisions de l’école en matière d’apprentissage et de réussite des élèves. Le conseil d’administration est également consulté sur divers sujets par la commission scolaire chaque année.
- Ses membres sont des parents/tuteurs, des enseignants, du personnel de soutien, du personnel de garderie, le directeur et des représentants de la communauté, mais seuls les représentants des parents sont élus lors de l’AGA.
- De plus, nous élirons également un représentant du comité des parents parmi les membres du conseil d’administration. Ce représentant siégera à un comité de la commission scolaire, qui se réunit environ 5 fois par an. En outre, des informations concernant le SEAC (Comité consultatif sur l’éducation spécialisée) seront partagées.
MISE À JOUR – Il y a quatre sièges de mandat de deux ans et un siège de mandat d’un an disponibles pour l’élection des parents/tuteurs, soit un total de cinq sièges vacants.
Lors de l’assemblée générale annuelle, chaque parent/tuteur qui souhaite proposer sa candidature à un siège au conseil d’administration sera invité à se présenter et à indiquer son nom ainsi que le niveau scolaire de son ou ses enfant(s) fréquentant Lord Aylmer (vous devez avoir un enfant fréquentant Lord Aylmer pour être considéré pour un siège). De plus, vous devrez expliquer pourquoi vous souhaitez rejoindre le conseil et ce que vous apporterez en occupant un siège au conseil.
Si plus de cinq parents/tuteurs sont intéressés, chaque membre se présentera et nous procéderons à un vote. Tous les parents/tuteurs présents à l’assemblée générale annuelle voteront pour leurs représentants parents/tuteurs.
**Si vous ne pouvez pas assister à l’Assemblée générale et que vous souhaitez proposer votre candidature pour le conseil d’administration ou le comité des parents, vous DEVEZ contacter Sam Halpin et Hannah Patrick et leur faire part de votre intention de vous présenter aux élections. Vous devrez rédiger une lettre indiquant votre intention et la raison pour laquelle vous devriez être nommé. Cette lettre sera lue lors de l’Assemblée générale pendant l’élection appropriée.**

Comité consultatif sur l’éducation spécialisée (SEAC)
- Qu’est-ce que le Comité consultatif sur l’éducation spécialisée?
- Chaque commission scolaire établit un comité consultatif sur les services aux élèves ayant des besoins particuliers, des difficultés d’adaptation sociale ou des troubles d’apprentissage. Il est composé de membres du personnel qui soutiennent ces élèves, d’un directeur, du directeur des services complémentaires ainsi que des parents d’enfants ayant un Plan d’intervention individualisé (IEP). Ce comité conseille la commission scolaire sur sa « politique d’organisation des services éducatifs aux élèves handicapés et aux élèves en difficulté d’adaptation ou d’apprentissage ». Il conseille également le comité d’allocation des ressources et la commission sur l’allocation des ressources financières aux services destinés à ces élèves ainsi que sur le plan d’engagement à la réussite de la commission. Il peut également conseiller la commission scolaire sur la mise en œuvre du PI d’un élève.
- Sélection des membres du SEAC
- Lors de l’Assemblée générale annuelle, les parents/tuteurs qui souhaitent être considérés pour la sélection au SEAC peuvent soumettre leurs noms au directeur. La sélection des parents membres de ce comité sera faite par le comité des parents lors de sa première réunion. Si les parents intéressés ne peuvent pas assister à l’AGA, il est possible de soumettre leur nom par voie électronique au plus tard le 30 septembre, en accédant à un court formulaire (SEAC FORM) disponible sur le site Web de la commission scolaire à l’adresse https://westernquebec.ca/join-the-special-education-advisory-committee/.

The start of the school year has officially begun! We were so excited to welcome back all your children, see their big smiles and hear their laughter in the hallways yesterday. There’s nothing quite like the excitement of back to school!
Each week, the school will send out a Community Communication every Friday (this week is the exception).This will allow you to prepare for the week ahead and stay “in the know” for all things happening at L.A. If there is ever anything pressing or important to communicate in between, there may be an additional email. However, we know how busy life gets and we will be centralizing our communication efforts in support of balancing lives outside of the school community. - Lord Aylmer will be hosting a Welcome Back BBQ/Carnival on Thursday, September 12th, 2024, from 3:00pm – 6:00pm at our SR campus. Please stay tuned for more details and confirmation.
- Our AGM will take place after the BBQ, in the SR campus gymnasium, September 12th from 6:00pm – 7:00pm.

End of Day Routine
- All teaching staff will be in touch to confirm your child(ren)’s regular end of day routine.
- A friendly reminder that if there is a change to your child’s end of day routine, please communicate this with the front office staff (Karen Comfort – kcomfort@wqsb.qc.ca at the JR Campus, and Paula Savescu – psavescu@wqsb.qc.ca at the SR Campus). Please also make sure your child’s homeroom teacher is informed of the end of day change.
Daycare
- Currently Daycare registration is full.
- We are accepting new registrations and placing them on a waiting list until new staff are hired.
- We appreciate your support and patience with this matter.

- School Fees are being finalized and will be sent out in September.

TumbleBooks is offering a Summer Reading Challenge this year for elementary students. Attached you will find a letter to parents in both English and French, as well as documents for the reading challenge and bingo activity (in both languages).
For those with secondary students, there is also a parent letter regarding how teens can access TeenBookCloud.

Sora is running a summer reading program for all ages. From now until August 26, 2024, the Sora Sweet Reads program will offer a collection of grade-appropriate ebook and audiobook titles that will be prominently displayed in Sora for quick and easy unlimited access.
