    Newsletter #8 – April 2023

Please see the important information below about events and reminders for this month. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions that will help improve your child’s experience or yours at Lord Aylmer, please do not hesitate to contact me at ekeon@wqsb.qc.ca .

    STUDENT RECOGNITION ASSEMBLY

Our March Student Recognition Assembly will take place April 13th. The school value on which we focused in March was “Leadership”. Congratulations to all our award winners. The value on which we are focusing in April is “Positivity”.

    5-Year Old KINDERGARTEN (K5) REGISTRATIONS

To register your child for 5-Year-Old Kindergarten for 2023-2024, he or she must be 5 years of age (K5) on or before September 30th, 2023.

K5 registrations are accepted now and are ongoing by appointment only. Contact Karen Comfort at 819-684-4888 or kcomfort@wqsb.qc.ca

There will be a Kindergarten Open House on May 2nd in the evening from 5:30PM-7:00 PM at the Junior Campus gymnasium. More information to come.

    4-Year Old KINDERGARTEN (K4) REGISTRATIONS

To register your child for 4-Year-Old Kindergarten for 2023-2024, he or she must be 4 years of age (K4) on or before September 30th , 2023.

    K4 Registrations are from April 17th to 21st , 2023.

Due to the limited number of spaces in the K4 program, registrations for K4 will be determined by a “lottery system”. All completed registrations received during the week of K4 registrations will be assigned a number. After the registration period is over, if we receive more applications than the allocated number of spots, we will hold a lottery to determine the students that will be registered for the K4 program. A wait list will also be drawn, to be used if one of the allocated spots becomes available before the start of the year or later in the year.

There will be a Kindergarten Open House on May 2nd in the evening from 5:30PM-7:00 PM at the Junior Campus gymnasium. More information to come.

NAVIGATING OUR SOCIAL AND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

Many parents and guardians have shared experiences with us regarding their difficulty navigating the health and social services in our region. We are working on a parent information session to be held in June in partnership with CISSSO, the WQSB, and Connexions. More information will be shared soon about this.

    JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

Get your skipping rope out and spring into action as the weather warms up! In April, students will be learning about heart health in physical education classes and will be encouraged to participate in our online fundraising campaign for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, which begins on Thursday, April 13th. Please check out the website at jumpropeforheart.ca for more information and to donate online. Our fundraising efforts will finish on Friday, May 5 th , and our school-wide event will take place at the end of that week. Thank you for your support!

    GRADE 6 CAKE RAFFLE

The Grade 6 Committee would like to extend a big thank you to the families of Grade 6 students that have been preparing and purchasing cakes for the cake raffle fundraiser. We also would like to thank everyone for purchasing tickets. With your help, we have raised over $2300 so far! These funds will offset the costs of the Grade 6 trip in June! We will have our Spring Cake Raffle on Wednesday, April 26th and tickets will go on sale April 17th. The cost is $1.00 for 3 tickets. Good luck to all!

    GOVERNING BOARD

The next governing board meeting is set for April 19th at 6:30PM.

CHANGE IN THE SCHOOL CALENDAR-MAY 8 PD DAY

Please note that the May 8 PD day has been declared a regular school day to make up for the Snow Day on December 22nd . Different schools may have selected another day than May 8th for their make-up day.

    DAYCARE AND PD DAYS

For April, the daycare theme is “Space” so groups will be doing activities in line with this theme. Thursdays are our club days at the junior campus and for April, the club day theme will be “Lego”. Fridays at the senior campus will include a science-themed club.

There is a PD day April 28th. We have hired “Everblast” to spend a few hours with our students who are registered for that day. The company will have a variety of games to play with our students.

The Remind with the link for the registration form was sent April 3rd and the form will close on April 12th at 12 p.m. We will have a maximum of 100 students. If we get the number before the due date, we will close the form earlier.

IMPORTANT: PD days are available for students who are already registered in daycare. We are not able to take new registrations at this time. The PD day will be at the Junior campus, drop off and pick up for all students registered will be at the Junior campus. Please remember that we close at 5 p.m. on PD days.

    DAYCARE PAYMENTS

March payments are due by March 31st and April payments will be due by April 30th. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.

    INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PINK

Wednesday, April 12th, 2023, marks the International Day of Pink. It is a day in which communities across the country, and across the world, can unite in celebrating diversity and raising awareness to stop all forms of bullying. We invite all students to wear pink on this day to show their support and celebrate differences.

    CROSS-BOUNDARY REQUESTS

Parents are asked to register their child in their boundary school. Cross Boundary Requests allow parents to request to send their child to another school located outside of the boundaries of a given school ( in other words, the territory served by a school). This transfer request is made to the Department of School Organization, which will review it individually before submitting a recommendation to the General Directorate.

If you would like to make a cross-boundary request for the 2023-2024 school year, please fill out the Cross Boundary Application Form 2023-2024 and return it to the School Organization Department by fax at 819 684- 9061 or email at cross-boundaries@wqsb.qc.ca. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2023. You will find detailed information about registration and cross-boundary requests on our school website at https://lordaylmer.westernquebec.ca/about/registrations-address-changes/

    SCHOOL FEES

If you have not yet paid your school fees, please visit the Mozaik parent portal for your statement of account. For further information regarding your child’s school account or to make payment agreement arrangements, please contact Corinna Abraham at (819) 684-6801 or cabraham@wqsb.qc.ca

    EXTRA CLOTHING

With spring upon us, the weather can be unpredictable. Melting snow and rain can result in a very wet school yard. Extra clothing to keep at school is recommended…socks, pants, mitts, etc.

    LOST AND FOUND

We continue to have several items in our lost and found areas. Please remember to label all clothing, including sweatshirts and sweaters. All labelled items will be returned. Parents can also stop by both campuses to go through the Lost and Found items.

    Autism Appreciation and Eid!

The week of April 17-21 will be a week of celebration for both Autism Appreciation from Monday to Thursday and Eid on Friday. Please join us in the following optional plans for both campuses. Please see the links below for more information and videos to open discussions with your child.
