Email Communication February 21

Hello L.A. Community,

We hope this email finds you enjoying all the snow! Our students definitely enjoyed the snow mountains this week, we loved seeing their faces light up when they saw the piles of snow to climb and slide down đŸ˜Š. We have an important update for you this week, please see below and attached.

Friendship Breakfast

  • Thank you to those who were able to donate for the JR and SR Campus breakfasts.
  • We understand that some students and parents/guardians were disappointed by the amount of food at the SR Campus Friendship Breakfast.
    • Please know that we did our best to ensure there was enough for everyone, the purpose of this event goes beyond the meal itself.
      • Foster a Sense of Community – Bringing students, and staff together to create a welcoming and inclusive school environment.
      • Promote Friendship & Gratitude – Encouraging students to appreciate shared experiences and focus on kindness and connection.
      • Ensure an Inclusive Schoolwide Experience – Providing an opportunity for all students to participate in a meaningful gathering.
      • Celebrate Togetherness & School Spirit – Strengthening bonds within our school community through a special and memorable event.
  • We appreciate everyone’s participation and look forward to more opportunities to come together as a school!

Grade Six Symmes Registration (Option Sheets)

  • Friendly reminder that the Symmes Open House is on March 26, 2025, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
  • Symmes will be providing all grade six students with a 2025-2026 Option Sheet
    • This is a registration form for all future grade seven students to decide on programming.
    • We are still awaiting these option sheets from Symmes, as soon as we receive them, our grade six teachers will send them home and communicate with our parent(s) & guardian(s).

Recess Equipment

  • A clarification on bringing items from home.
  • If your child has equipment, they would like to bring from home to play with at recess, this is welcomed and even encouraged.
  • We as a school are working on upgrading our outdoor spaces with more equipment and play spaces (stay tuned 😊).
  • Acceptable recess equipment –
    • Mini Sticks
    • Basketballs
    • Soccer Balls
    • Footballs
    • Skipping Ropes
    • Frisbees (soft or standard, avoid rigid plastic in extreme cold)
    • Beanbags
    • Velcro catch ball sets (e.g., “sticky ball” paddles)
  • Please note that the equipment must be easily transported by the student.
  • The school does provide recess equipment such as the items listed above; however, if a student would like to bring something from home, they are more than welcome to. Please label your child’s equipment. The school is not responsible for lost or broken items.

  • Pink Shirt Day is an annual event held each year in Canada in February.
  • We encourage our students and staff to wear pink shirts to raise awareness about bullying, particularly in schools.
  • Pink Shirt Day was started in 2007 in Canada, where it is held on the last Wednesday of February each year.

REMINDER – School Perseverance Day

  • Hot off the presses – February 25, 2025, we will celebrate and bring recognition to School Perseverance Day.
  • What is School Perseverance Day?
    • To remind us of our vital role in motivating young people and helping them persevere. Whether individually or collectively, our actions encourage our students from early childhood to adulthood to stay in school.
  • The SR CAMPUS will be joining Eardley Elementary for a School Pride Walk on February 25, 2025, from 12:45pm – 1:25pm.
  • We encourage all students and staff to wear GREEN to show their spirit and support!

February 28, 2025 – The Start of Ramadan

  • To those who observe Ramadan we wish you a peaceful and healthy month.

2025 Lord Aylmer Drama Production

  • Lights, costumes, action! Our students are hard at work preparing for this year’s play, and we need your help to bring it to life. We’re looking for donations of props and costumes—because what’s a time-traveling adventure without the right gear?
  • Currently, we’re searching for:
đŸŽ”1980s boombox – because no one time-travels in silence.
đŸŽ€Mic stand – so our performers can shine without juggling a microphone.
    ⚔Plastic medieval/knight swords (x4) – don’t worry, no actual jousting involved.
🐮Stick horses (x4) – because real horses don’t fit on stage.
đŸ’‡â€â™‚ïž1980s wigs (x6) – think big hair, bigger dreams—bonus points for a mullet!
👹‍🚀Futuristic costumes (x6, silver or white, sized for 10–12-year-olds) – because we assume the future is shiny.
đŸȘ‘ Small benches (like a piano bench) (x2) – ideal for a scenic stroll through a roaring city park—or a dramatic time-travel mishap!
  • đŸ“©Â Before sending in any donations, please email Jenn Peddie at jpeddie@wqsb.qc.ca to coordinate!

We wish you all a relaxing and safe weekend,

Sam Halpin & Hannah Patrick
